Web-overwhelmed!!

I am not a new teacher, but I'm not an old one either. I have travelled around and taught at various different schools in various different countries and decided to make my current board my home. I like learning new things, and I try and keep up with new ideas as they come about.....but does anyone else feel that all this web stuff is coming at you at the speed of light?? I can't keep up!! Just when I learn about something new (eg; moodle) and start to practice using it, something bigger/better/newer/more versatile comes along! I barely wrap my head around one technology and 10 more come along....aaaahhh!

  1. Yes, it is one thing after another. Fortunately, there's quite a few of us here from Newmarket HS, so we can learn together

  2. I know what you mean. I am in my fourth year teaching and so I'm still getting to know the ropes...and there are a lot of ropes to navigate and learn in teaching. Add to this big task the push to incorporate technology in the classroom. Everytime I learn to use a software or application, which are noit many by the way, a newer version pops up! My laptop is merely two years old and by technological standards, it is now considered ancient. I think there is a huge economical agenda bejhind all of this. The only constant is change! Love it or hate, we have to "roll with the punches" and adapt.

  3. I'm with you, Jen. I'm just a beginner but I enjoy learning new things. Like Mary said, let's get support from each other at NHS. Maybe we can all meet together and learn this stuff.

  5. Technology is like everything else. The more you learn the more you discover how little you know. I learn new things EVERY day. And yes...it seems like we can't keep up. Solution??? Acceptance! Ask your kids how to do it!

  6. Hey Jenn,

Don't worry about all the new technology coming out. Work with what you feel comfortable with. Just because it is out there, does not mean you have to use it. If Moodle is what you are currently familiarizing yourself withm then role with it. As for what you are learning now, at least you can say that you know about it and that you have experience using it. It's just like PD. Every year there is something new. But we pick and choose what we wish to use in our classrooms.

  7. I agree with George. Wise words there. The fact that you're working with it, trying it, finding out about it is the good thing. You pick what works best for you. It's overwhelming, to be sure.

  8. It is great to try new things and get inspired. The list of websites and programs to try is never ending - we couldn't possibly try them all. Did you look at Steve Anderson's delicious account???? Now that is overwhelming. I'm going to pick a few sites to try and see how it goes. Good luck with your quest.
